Glorious Glyndebourne

An exuberant brainchild of John Christie, Glyndebourne Festival Opera launched in 1934 with a production of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro. This celebration includes 12 productions from the last 13 years ranging across ‘signature’ works such as The Marriage of Figaro, classic productions such as The Rake’s Progress with designs by David Hockney, and new adventures in Baroque opera and Wagner.

Reviews

"… Here is a Figaro to put with the 1973 Glyndebourne production placed among the top five operatic DVDs. Figaro and Susanna are very much the centre here, and we like them not only because they sing and act well but because they are sympathetic in a modern way." (Gramophone - The Marriage of Figaro)

"... Lucy Crowe’s glowingly sung Vixen ...Tom Pye’s Hockneyish designs are evocative of a world of childish wonder, with animal costumes which cleverly suggest human characteristic." (The Daily Telegraph - The Cunning Little Vixen)

"The musical standards are universally high, as are the stage and camera direction." (Musicweb International)
