The Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by English conductor Simon Rattle and is based at the Philharmonie, a 1960s build which has been modernised since due to fire and water damage. The orchestra was initially founded in 1882 and just five years later, Hans von Bülow, one of the most esteemed conductors in the world, took the reins.
The BPO launched a Digital Concert Hall in 2008 which enables performances to be watched on their website by anyone in the world. This forward thinking orchestra also release podcasts and translate all of their programme material into English for their international supporters. An array of contemporary and classical concerts are planned for the summer, and tickets can currently be purchased for events up until July.
