The Russian National Orchestra premiered in Moscow in 1990 and instantly became synonymous with such beautiful performances that it has belied its comparative youth and become a ‘best orchestras’ list fixture. The RNO has an extensive touring schedule, wowing London with its first appearance at the BBC Proms in London in 1996 and becoming the first Russian orchestra to visit Israel and perform at the Vatican. The first RNO recording was released on CD in 1991 and was a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Pathétique, since acknowledged by classical publications as the best version of the piece in history.

Summers see the RNO continue its international adventures, with visits to the Napa Valley Festival del Sole, Festival of the Arts BOCA in Florida, the Singapore Sun Festival and the Tuscan Sun Festival in Cortona, Italy, all staples. In summer 2009, the RNO will be launching its own festival, taking place in the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
