Shakespeare’s plays have been entertaining theatre audiences for 400 years. In their day, the theatre was the normal means of entertainment for everybody, regardless of wealth or stature. The cinema holds much the same place in our hearts today and so it’s fitting that Shakespeare’s Globe will be screening two plays from this summer’s roster in cinemas around the UK.

Love’s Labours Lost is overflowing with the punning and clever wordplay that Shakespeare is renowned for. Sparring between the sexes and thwarted attempts at seduction are all intermingled around a ‘play within a play’ – making this a play within a play, within a film. The production is showing in selected Vue and Odeon cinemas on April 12th, 26th and 27th. For further information, lists of participating cinemas and to book tickets, check here.
As You Like It is another of the Bard’s comedies, with characters that fall in and out of love with each other with impressive speed before a very tidy pairing off at the end. As You Like It features one of the most famous Shakespearian speeches, beginning with the line ‘All the world’s a stage’. The play is to be screened at various cinemas across the UK on April 18th, June 14th and October 11th and 12th. See here for further information.
DVD and Blu-Rays will be available of both plays, and the Shakespeare’s Globe production of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo and Juliet is released on Opus Arte DVD and Blu-Ray on April 1st, As You Like It is released on May 1st and Love’s Labours Lost on August 1st.
