"A strong cast was the most prominent factor in the return of Macbeth to the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Carlos Álvarez...sung in glorious voice and with a good sense of the psychology of the character. His dominating Lady was Guleghina...her dramatic presence is overwhelming, especially in her wonderful Sleepwalking scene." (Opera)

"Extravagantly spread over two DVDs, the production from the Liceu in Barcelona offers a striking version, set on a bare stage with stylized geometric squares taking the place of scenery. It works surprisingly well, with the opening chorus of witches - a large contingent - singing powerfully, dressed in black with vermilion turbans." (The Penguin Guide)
